The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is the world’s largest moot court competition in the field of international commercial law. In 1993, 11 universities from 9 countries took part in the first Vis Arbitration Moot. Nowadays, it has become a fascinating event for law students worldwide, welcoming more than 350 universities worldwide. Leiden University has a long standing tradition of participating in the VIS Moot, with the 2022-2023 Team being the 12th student-team to represent Leiden University in the Competition. In 2018, the Leiden University VIS Moot won the Plesner Copenhague Pre-Moot 2018. During the same season, the Leiden University Team brought home the Honorable Mention Award for Best Memorandum for Respondent at the 25th VIS Moot Court edition in Vienna. This award placed the Team in the top 9% of the Best Memorandum for Respondent category. Throughout the years, the Leiden University VIS Moot Court Teams have been privileged to cooperate with some of the most important law firms in the field of dispute settlement and in the field of arbitration. The Teams were sponsored and coached by the law firms, whose support made their participation in the Competition possible.
