De Koninklijke Nederlandse Honkbalbond (KNHB) werd op 12 maart 1912 in Amsterdam opgericht op initiatief van honkbalpioniers Grasé Bleesing en Baggelaar. Grasé introduceerde de sport in het begin van de vorige eeuw in ons land, Bleesing werd later de langstzittende bondsvoorzitter en meest actieve promotor van de sport, terwijl Baggelaar de grondlegger was van het scheidsrechteren bij de honkbalwedstrijden. In 1971 heeft een fusie plaatsgevonden tussen de KNHB en de Nederlandse Amateur Softbal Bond. Deze fusie heeft geleid tot de Koninklijke Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond (KNBSB). In 1934 werd de eerste officiële internationale wedstrijd gespeeld, in Haarlem tegen België. Er zijn nu ruim 180 clubs verspreid over Nederland.
