About Gnarly

Kelly van Gemert is an intersectional activist and illustrator. She creates dreamlike artwork under the alias Gnarly, where she shares her view on the world with others to inspire, encourage and comfort. ‘Gnarly’ is a hint towards the skateboard scene, where the word is used to point out something cool or extreme. Themes like self-acceptation, inclusivity and the overcoming of obstacles in life are often a central point in her work. Sugar sweet and cute, but always with a sharp edge.
